Yahoo plans to release an in-house weather app for iOS and an iPad version of its Yahoo Mail app as soon as tomorrow, according to a person familiar with the apps.

The iPad version of Yahoo Mail is optimized for the iPad’s larger screen, and it is already available for the iPhone and iPod touch. Late last year, Yahoo released a redesigned version of its iPhone application that focused on speed and intuitiveness.

LinkedIn is on a redesign rampage. It has already made over its home page, profile page and Recruiter product. Next in line: mobile. The company revamped versions of its iPhone, Android and web apps to focus heavily on content and personalization, not just landing your dream job.

Wednesday’s update addresses the growing LinkedIn mobile usage, which now accounts for 27 percent of its unique visitors, up from 15 percent last year. Mobile page views have gone up 250 percent year over year. And the company found that mobile users aren’t browsing the social network in the same way as desktop users. The newly designed apps address these differences and put a new visually compelling update stream, full of stories and status updates, front and center.

Google is starting to distribute its new Internet-connected glasses, something seen as the next breakthrough in mobile computing.

Google has picked 8,000 people in the US who entered a contest. The winners will have to pay $1,500 apiece for a test version of Google Glass. The company also took an unspecified number of orders from computer programmers.

Leap Motion is teaming up with Hewlett-Packard to bring its 3D motion control technology to select HP devices, though no launch timeline or product list were released.

The partnership will begin by bundling the Leap Motion Controller with certain HP products, but that will evolve into the sale of HP devices embedded with Leap Motion’s technology.

“Our focus at Leap Motion is to fundamentally improve how people interact with their devices, and offer as many ways as possible to achieve that vision,” said Leap CEO Michael Buckwald.
